On the vertical axis, High Fantasy vs Low Fantasy. High would be set in a fictional world with magic and supernatural beings in it, possibly going as far as to involve the gods. Low fantasy would be more grounded in reality, and magic or supernatural thing in it would be more rare.

On the horizontal axis, Heroic vs Dark. Heroic fantasy would be typically focused on the journeys of protagonists fighting clear moral battles for the greater good. In Dark fantasy, however, the line between good and evil is blurred, and fear or survival outweighs heroic triumph, in grim settings.
